ASHEBORO -- Samuel Eugene (Gene) Matherly, 34, of 5654 N.C. Hwy. 49 S., Denton, died Wednesday, May 24, 1995 at N.C. Baptist Hospital. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at Browers Memorial Wesleyan Church, conducted by Rev. James Hulett and Rev. Leonard Leonhardt. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park. Mr. Matherly lived in Kernersville most of his life and was employed with Perrycraft Inc. of Winston-Salem. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Craven Matherly; sisters, Audrey Price and Mary Walker of Kernersville; two half-sisters; two half-brothers; and maternal grandmother, Lila McGuire of Martinsville, Va. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro. Memorials may be made to Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, Bowman Gray School of Medicine, c/o Dr. David Hurd, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27157-1082.
